Description
Dog Sledding Tour
Dog sledding, or dog mushing, has been practiced for hundreds of years. And while dog breeds and sled construction has changed, the vivid experience has stayed largely the same. On the sled, you are inches above the snow as your dog team bolts down wooded trails, across frozen lakes and over snow-covered meadows. Sled dogs are bred to pull and, in well-kept teams, are having as much fun as you are! Even during the summer you can experience ride on a wheeled cart (on the ground, not snow) that the dogs use for training!
Tour location
Tour takes place in Zilie Kalni (Blue Hills) Nature Park in the Ogre municipality, beautiful area 36 km from Riga (~45 min drive). An EU protected habitat – a coniferous forest growing on the esker ridge of the Ogre Blue Hills – covers most of the nature park's territory and is home to 18 protected plant species, six protected bird species and several protected insect species. A splendid view opens from the 30-meter-high observation tower on the highest of the hills.
